Buy a bowel screening kit
Bowel cancer kills around 80 Australians each week but can usually be cured if detected early. This involves a simple bowel screening test called a faecal occult blood test (FOBT) that can be done in the privacy of your home.
An FOBT will look for small amounts of blood in bowel motions that may be a sign of bowel cancer. When the test is completed, send the test to the pathology service which will analyse the samples and send you and your doctor the results.
We encourage all South Australians who are aged 50 and over, and do not have symptoms or a family history of bowel cancer, to undertake bowel cancer screening every two years.
